A kayak carrier is a fashion statement in and of its self. A kayak carrier shows the world that you like adventure and you go places to search for it. But a kayak carrier is also quite practical in application, so you need to choose wisely.
What’s on board?
When you first start looking for a kayak carrier, you’ll need to consider the size and the length of the kayak that you want to transport.
Of course, you’ll also want to look at the size of your car as well.
The kayak carrier needs to be able to be supported by your vehicle as well as by the way that it is attached to the car. You don’t want to have your kayak fly off the car when you’re on the highway.
How to strap it on
There are two different ways that a kayak carrier can work.
One way is to fasten straps or wheels onto the top of your car so that the kayak can either be fasted down or rolled onto the car and then fastened down.
The other kayak carrier option is to have a fixture attached to the back of your car that the kayak will fit into vertically. This only works if your car is mach taller off the ground.
Again, make sure that your kayak is supported by your car.
While a backside kayak carrier might seem like a good idea, it’s better suited for SUVs and vans.
Keeping it on
The straps that you use for the kayak carrier need to be reinforced in order to prevent breakage. Those that are made of synthetic materials are the best as they will not erode with the weather conditions.
You will also want to include a sort of covering for the actual kayak as this will shield it from any debris that might hit it on your way home.
Small chips can add up to big trouble on the water.
A kayak carrier not only protects your investment, but it also makes it easy to load and unload your kayak for another day on the water.
